A | Unexpected Encounter
[1] On the last Monday of August 2022, two random pedestrians met on Footbridge 184. In other words, they randomly ran into one another because of the Ri4CTV Chess & Storytelling Program on the MVL Memorial Bridge. The video [An Unexpected Game of Chess on the Footbridge | Footbridge 184 | S1E5 | @ri4ctv](v=p61GqASWAww) captured part of their encounter. One of them did not expect the encounter to kick-start a Thumoslang journey that profoundly changed his life in the coming days.
[2] A feature of Footbridge 184 is Start Your Story Here (SYSH). In this program, people can discover the magic of bongo for their ideals. Its mission is to get people started writing The Biggest Story for Your Life. They may want to attend Thumoslang Workshop 401 to finish what they started. It’s an excellent way to kick-start a Thumoslang journey.
B | Thumoslang Journey
[3] Let’s take a journey through Thumoslang, a collection of operating terms designed for matching understanding during human interaction. Along the way, let’s consult this book, Thumoslang for Character Renovation (TCR) and Footbridge 184, also known as Thumoslang on the Run (OTR).
OTR’s purpose is to help turn each person into a human through a slow-burn personal transformation using Thumoslang as a linguistic tool and level of analysis.
— Chapter 28, An Exchange with Jeffrey Kaczmarski
[4] Thumoslang teaching books such as TCR and OTR answer questions about various concepts so fundamental to humanity that failure to understand them will lead to failures in life. They explain why one must understand what purpose means. Otherwise, one could not discharge the full power of an idea or family as a concept in a speech. When is the concept of deliberation, purpose, or idea at play?
C | When is Deliberation at Play?
[5] To understand better the concept of deliberation, consider the following sequence of Thumoslang thumbnail definitions:
- Perpetual; that means, endless repetition.
- Process; that means, perpetual steps.
- Conclusion; that means, process outcome.
- Decision; that means, an action-oriented conclusion.
- Consideration; that means, weighed decisions.
- Deliberation; that means, documented consideration.
- Deliberate; that means, with deliberation.
[6] Understanding what deliberation means, leads to a better understanding of the following concepts, listed alphabetically.
- Adulthood; that means, a deliberate future.
- By design; that means, deliberately and purposefully.
- Design; that means, deliberate foresight.
- Disclosure; that means, deliberate exposure.
- Engineering; that means, deliberate structures.
- Intent; that means, deliberate goal.
- Malinformation; that means, deliberate misuse.
- Persona; that means, deliberate expression.
- Personal philosophy; that means, a deliberate approach to personal ideals.
- Pursuit; that means, deliberate want.
- Ritual; that means, deliberate routine.
- Rudeness; that means, deliberate discourtesy.
- Service; that means, deliberate assistance.
D | When is Purpose at Play?
[7] Consider the following sequence of Thumoslang thumbnail definitions, referred to as Thumbnail Branch D. It should explain the connection between the concept of service and that of purpose.
- Decision; that means, an action-oriented conclusion.
- Consideration; that means, weighed decisions.
- Deliberation; that means, documented consideration.
- Deliberate; that means, with deliberation.
- Service; that means, deliberate assistance.
- Benefit; that means, service to others.
- Usefulness; that means, offering a benefit.
- Value; that means, the level of usefulness.
- Purpose; that means, value to others.
[8] “The vocabulary from Thumoslang gives power to how someone speaks,” reacted Norman Baker (pictured). “For example, to use the word ‘purpose,’ you must understand the word value. To understand the word ‘value,’ you must understand the word ‘usefulness.’ The word ‘purpose’ is rich and full of meaning. In this case, there are eight other words with their thumbnail definitions adding to the definition of purpose. Having such a deep meaning to “purpose” makes the word untouchable by cheap thoughts. The thumbnail sequence traces through a collection of words that add to ‘purpose.’ This trace-back of definitions can help our mental chatter have a direction and solution when we are unsure or begin to have cascading thoughts. Suppose we are in a situation where the purpose of something is questionable. In that case, we can rely on a collective of thumbnail definitions like a mental map to guide our thinking logically and see what the situation is as it truly stands.” See Chapter 7, What is Content of Character?
E | When is Idea at Play?
[9] To understand the concept of the idea, consider the following sequence of thumbnails, Thumbnail Branch E, which appears in OTR’s Chapter 28, A Leadership Demonstration.
- Value; that means, the level of usefulness.
- Purpose; that means, value to others.
- Presentation; that means, purposeful speech.
- Consideration; that means, weighed decisions.
- Proposal; that means, presentation for consideration.
- Effort; that means, vigorous attempt.
- Action; that means, a unit of effort.
- Idea; that means, action proposal.
- Brainstorming; that means, idea seeking.
[10] A form of brainstorming is collaboration, which is not the same as teamwork. In Chapter 21, The First Thumoslang Morning, Nickantony Quach (pictured) explains the difference between teamwork and collaboration. The former is about the division of labor, whereas the latter is getting multiple minds to work as one. The following Thumoslang thumbnail definitions characterize teamwork.
- Deliverable; that means, an acknowledgment of use.
- Coordination; that means, minimal conflicts.
- Teamwork; that means, team deliverables using coordinated resources.
[11] The following Thumoslang thumbnail definitions depict collaboration.
- Intelligence; that means, maximizing options.
- Intellect; that means, capacity for intelligence.
- Collaboration; that means, a joint intellectual effort.
[12] To collaborate, you must combine togetherness, intelligence, and vigorousness. The original Thumos textbook (OTB) has a complete explanation.
F | When is Family at Play?
[13] Notice that thumbnail branch E is an extension of thumbnail branch D. The following sequence, Thumbnail Branch F, is an alternative to thumbnail branch E. It goes from value and purpose to the relationship and family, instead of the idea and brainstorming.
- Value; that means, the level of usefulness.
- Purpose; that means, value to others.
- Involvement; that means, causing inclusion.
- Relation; that means, purposeful involvement.
- Relationship; that means, ongoing relations.
- Family; that means, unbreakable in-person relationships.
[14] “The above sequence made me think about how to improve a romantic relationship,” said Norman in Chapter 7. “If a relation is a purposeful involvement, then that means the involvement has value. Without purpose, there is no relation. The above thumbnails made me think about what purpose I want to share or create in my life’s romantic relations. This section makes me think about whether I have been bringing value into my romances or not. Still, they help me think about what precisely I will put in the effort to bring value to a romantic partner’s life. It is a subject of understanding that I have not fully developed in my mind. So far, I can only think of a subjective value to bring happiness to a romantic partner’s life. Everyone wants to be happy, and making someone happy is a person-to-person case. However, I want to answer this question: how do you practically bring value to a romantic partner’s life?”
G | When is Navi at Play?
[15] The following sequence, Thumbnail Branch G, is an alternative to either thumbnail branch E or F. It goes from value and purpose to belonging and navi.
- Value; that means, the level of usefulness.
- Purpose; that means, value to others.
- Involvement; that means, causing inclusion.
- Relation; that means, purposeful involvement.
- Belonging; that means, secure relations.
- Navi; that means, belonging, meaning, and purpose.
[16] Chapter 23, The Second Thumoslang Morning, and OTR’s Chapter 11, Most Important Thing in Life, address the following question in the following text, Segment OTR11. How do you know that you’re on your way toward your ideals?
[START OF SEGMENT OTR11]
[17] “What do you think that knowing Thumoslang will help you with outside the context of our podcast idea?” asked Alec Mustafayev (pictured).
[18] “I think Thumoslang will help many get a sense of social clarity and understand how the world works,” answered Lyonel Fritsch, not his real name.
[19] “I understood Alec’s question is about Lyonel specifically,” observed Nickantony Quach.
[20] “Yes,” confirmed Alec.
[21] “Oh, Okay,” understood Lyonel.
[22] “Why do you feel drawn to it?” asked Alec.
[23] “The answer is navi,” answered Lyonel.
- Navi; that means, belonging, meaning, and purpose.
[24] When you have navi, you’re on your way toward your ideals.
[25] “I’m drawn to Thumoslang just because I feel I’d be in control more,” elaborated Lyonel.
[26] “Wow,” Nick was surprised. “I did not expect that answer.”
[27] “I won’t have to take as many guesses and chances in life when I have Thumoslang as a tool of analysis,” explained Lyonel. “Thumoslang is not just a language; it’s also a tool of analysis. Economists deal with much analysis. Thumoslang will help me analyze economics in a new light.”
[28] “It’s a level of analysis because you can’t look at how different things might interact with each other on the level of the meaning of language without Thumoslang very easily,” said Alec.
[29] “Oh, yeah, definitely,” agreed Lyonel. “In general, understanding of general or labor economic trends and foreign policies, all that comes down to communications. You have to communicate through language. Having a good understanding of languages will certainly help with that. As far as I know, Thumoslang is the most up-to-date understanding of modern communication.”
[30] “Wow,” Nick was amazed at Lyonel’s insight.
[31] “That is such a big compliment,” observed Alec. “the most up-to-date.”
[32] “Well, I haven’t been proven otherwise,” affirmed Lyonel. “Falsifiability!”
- Dogma; that means, self-declared truth.
- Falsifiable; that means, non-dogmatic.
- Falsifiability; that means, a better truth is possible.
[33] “Falsifiability,” repeated Alec. “Yes.”
[END OF SEGMENT OTR11]
[34] Once again, how do you know that you are on the way toward your ideas? The answer is navi; for its origin, see Chapter 9, What is Character Renovation?
P | When is Vision at Play?
[35] The following sequence, Thumbnail Branch P, is an alternative to thumbnail branches E, F, and G. It goes from value and purpose to vision and fruition.
- Value; that means, the level of usefulness.
- Purpose; that means, value to others.
- Destination; that means, the ultimate purpose.
- Vision; that means, a future destination.
- Fruition; that means, a vision realized.
[36] Thumoslang works as a tool and level of analysis. It brings about conclusions such as the following one. You must understand the concept of purpose in depth because it stands behind many important concepts, including idea, relation, and vision.
